Tool Maker – Sinker EDM / Precision Moldmaking

Location: Fremont, CA
Pay: $42.00–$48.00 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Tool Maker with strong Sinker EDM and precision injection moldmaking experience to join a growing toolroom in Fremont. This role focuses on building, repairing, modifying, and maintaining high-precision injection molds and tooling components for advanced medical device manufacturing.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with complex molds, electrode design, EDM machining, and tight-tolerance manufacturing. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled toolmaker who enjoys technical problem-solving, precision work, and collaborating with an experienced manufacturing team.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, repair, modify, and maintain precision injection molds, including multi-cavity, hot runner, and modular tooling.
• Set up and operate Sinker EDM equipment to produce precision mold components.
• Design and manufacture electrodes for EDM applications.
• Operate Wire EDM equipment and perform precision machining operations.
• Program, set up, and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines.
• Consistently meet tight machining tolerances, including tolerances as close as ±0.0002 inches.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and tooling designs.
• Inspect finished components using precision measurement tools.
• Troubleshoot mold and tooling issues and recommend improvements.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate project progress.
• Collaborate with other toolmakers and manufacturing teams to meet project deadlines.
• Support training and development of apprentices and other team members.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area while following established quality and safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Journeyman Toolmaker certification or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 8+ years of injection moldmaking experience, including Class 101–105 tooling, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of Sinker EDM experience, including electrode design.
• 3+ years of Wire EDM experience.
• Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC milling equipment.
• Strong blueprint reading, print interpretation, and precision measurement skills.
• Solid mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting abilities, and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely operate machining equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with micro-molding or micro-tooling applications.
• Knowledge of hot runner systems, hardened tooling, and multi-cavity molds.
• Experience with reverse engineering and mold troubleshooting.
• Experience working with molds used in 20–200 ton presses.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $42.00–$48.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

Work Environment

Work in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment specializing in high-precision injection molding and complex, small-scale components. This position requires hands-on work around machining equipment and the consistent use of precision measuring instruments.
